At a meeting in the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, on 1st February 2007 the British Tunisian Society invited Dr Simon Wood and Stephen Day to give a presentation about the 1960 Oxford and Cambridge Universities' Expedition to Mali and Mauritania.

The event was intended to show the development that has taken place in that country in 44 years and also to serve as a reunion for most of the members of the original expedition. Simon Wood was the official photographer on the 1960 expedition and illustrated his talk with archive film that was made at the time and compares it with footage recorded more recently. This site contains the main presentation that was preceded by a reception and followed by a discussion session and an informal social gathering of interested parties including Mr Yacoub El Moustapha, First Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
